Shan - The Cattlemen's Beef Board does not take a position on either of the issues you mention -- COOL or national ID -- because the Board is strictly prohibited from spending your checkoff dollars on programs focused on regulatory or legislative influence. The Beef Promotion and Research Order under which the Board administers the checkoff, is very clear on this: "No funds collected by the Board ... shall in any manner be used for the purpose of influencing governmental policy or action...." Instead, the Beef Checkoff Program and, thus, the Cattlemen's Beef Board, is tightly focused on promotion, research and information programs aimed at building consumer demand for beef and, as a result, increasing profit opportunities for cattlemen.

Thank you,

I am excited that the beef board has a blog. Every now and then Questions come up about the check-off and I can not answer them.
Something we would like to know is, is the check-off supportive of COOL and is part of the check-off going toward tagging of all bovine for sale.
